The British Orthodontic Society (BOS) and BAOMS set up a working group led by Prof Sue Cunningham and Dr Helen Travess for BOS, and Prof Ashraf Ayoub for BAOMS, to select a new set of PROM tools for patients who undergo orthognathic treatment. The “BAOMS BOS Orthognathic PROM” is a streamlined version of the existing NFORC V3 and V8 questionnaires (which it is replacing) and is managed wholly online.
The Orthognathic PROM has been rollout nationally in 2024. It is a long-term project that will provide clinicians (both orthodontists and surgeons) feedback data on the experience of surgical orthognathic patients.
What does it involve?
To discuss what the project entails, please contact Fabien Puglia, QOMS Project Manager.
Your first step is to contact your hospital's Information Governance or Audit department to register the audit (to help, feel free to cc Fabien). To help you with this process, we have prepared a data protection impact assessment (DPIA), available in the starter pack below.
Once you have obtained approval, contact Fabien to obtain your patient pack (information leaflet, consent form and your unit's own QR code).
How does the project run?
The project asks local units to enrol patients ib the study to follow their experience up throughout treatment (from pre-treatment to 1 year post surgery). This means it is a long-term longitudinal PROM project.
Patients are given an information sheet, asked to sign a consent form, and then directed to one of 4 online questionnaires, depending on the stage of their treatment. This can be done on their phones/tablets or computers either in the department (during a routine visit) or at home.
