Developing future leaders in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Led by BAOMS President Professor Bhavin Visavadia, the programme is open to trainees committed to a career in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, from those undertaking their second degree through to ST8.

BAOMS invites applications for 6 GOLD DUST Fellowships:
- 1. Patient Communication and Experience
- 2. Leadership, Teams and Culture
- 3. Education, Teaching and Mentoring
- 4. Surgical innovation, 3D planning and responsible artificial intelligence
- 5. Wellbeing and Sustainable careers
- 6. Digital communication and Public engagement
Each Fellow will identify a real issue, establish a baseline, introduce an improvement, measure its effect and create something that others can use.
The Fellowship
Candidates will receive individual coaching, a named mentor and support from an expert multidisciplinary faculty. The programme will develop communication, presentation, leadership, education, digital capability, wellbeing and innovation. Each Fellow will receive a Professional Development Award alongside their Gold Dust Fellowship Certificate. Fellows will present a summary of their work at the BAOMS Annual Scientific Meeting in Edinburgh, 23 to 25 June 2027.
Who should apply?
Applications are welcomed from BAOMS trainees committed to a career in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, from those undertaking their second degree through to ST8. Selection will focus on potential, purpose, openness to development and a genuine commitment to improving patient care, clinical teams or surgical education. Achievement will be considered in the context of career stage, background, geography and access to opportunity.
How to apply
Applicants should submit a brief curriculum vitae, a personal statement of no more than 500 words, a brief description of something they would like to improve, their first and second choice Fellowship areas, and the required supporting reference. The supporting reference must be provided by a consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who is a BAOMS Fellow. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview exploring their motivation, potential and readiness to develop.

- Interviews will be scheduled for November 2026
Fellowship Commitment
Selected Fellows must participate fully, complete their project and attend the Edinburgh meeting. Normal registration, travel and accommodation costs will be met by the Fellow.
