New NCEPOD Chair Ian Martin pledges to ensure the high quality of the enquiry’s work to improve the quality of healthcare practice
Ian Martin, consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon, has been appointed Chair of Trustees and Steering Group for the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD), cementing his long-term commitment to the enquiry that began in the mid-90s.
“I am delighted and honoured to have taken over as NCEPOD Chair,” Ian Martin said. “I acted as a specialty advisor for NCEPOD in 1996, and went on to work as a Clinical Co-ordinator for 15 years, including four years as Lead Co-ordinator before I joined the board in 2013.
“It has been a real pleasure and privilege to work with the dedicated staff at NCEPOD and to see the organisation flourish. There is no doubt about the importance of the work that NCEPOD does and the demonstrable benefits in the quality of patient care that have been generated from its efforts.”
He added that that NCEPOD’s continuing success relied on professionals across the NHS “on the good will and enthusiasm of the Local Reporters and Ambassadors, the professional organisations represented on our Steering Group, and the many healthcare professionals who devote their time and effort to develop and run the studies.
“I will endeavour to ensure that the work of NCEPOD continues to be highly respected by all healthcare professionals and patients,” he pledged.
