Support Shak Mustafa swim for NRIEF to fund training for Nepalese surgeons

Shak Mustafa will make a 2.4 mile fundraising sea swim for the Norman Rowe International Education Foundation (NRIEF) and BAOMS to support cleft surgery training in Nepal, and he needs your donations.
He explains: “I’m on a mission to raise £1,500 to support oral and maxillofacial surgeon Ashok Dongol, one of the local surgeons in Dharan, to complete their cleft training, and help re-establish their local hospital as an approved cleft surgery centre. The £1,500 I raise should cover his travel and living expenses for six months. Sadly, our colleagues have no admission rights to treat cleft patients since the departure of their lead surgeon.
“I've paid my entry fees and have been training hard(ish). I reached my distance in the pool so please help me reach my target of £1,500 - and cheer me on in the sea!!!”
On the evening of 13 July 2018 Shak Mustafa will swim the 2.4 miles around Tenby’s North Beach in the Wales Swim event.
NRIEF and BAOMS have funded an aid and education programme in Nepal since the devastating earthquake in 2015. It’s a key aim of the charity’s overall programme to improve oral and maxillofacial surgery education overseas. BAOMS members have made four successful missions, including Shak who has led two missions to Nepal. Last year NRIEF and BAOMS hosted OMFS Mehul Jaisan, head of department in Dharan, in the UK to continue his training. During Mehul Jaisan’s stay in the UK he completed an Advanced Trauma Life Support course at the Cwm Taf University Health Board training centre where Shak Mustafa is based as a consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
Calling on colleagues to donate to his NRIEF fundraising swim, Shak Mustafa says: “I have raised just over £1,000 of the target £1,500 and I need your support to reach my goal. You can donate via my JustGiving page. If you want to donate by phone, text to 70070 and type in the code NRIF99 followed by the amount you would like to donate - for example NRIF99 £10 – and thanks!”
