Cranio-oral and facial surgeon Rob Bentley named as one of the Evening Standard’s top 1,000 influential people in London
British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (BAOMS) Vice President Rob Bentley, and Consultant Cranio-Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon and Clinical Director of the South East London Kent and Medway (SELKaM) Trauma Network, has been recognised for the work he has done on delivering London’s first 24-hour medical emergency helipad.
Progress 1000, the Evening Standard’s celebration of the people changing London’s future for the better last night (03/10/19) named London's most influential people from technology and health to politics and culture. Rob Bentley and King’s trauma surgeon colleague Duncan Bew were both included on the list for 2019.
Rob Bentley said he was delighted to receive the recognition for the fourth time in six years because it represented “the continued development of our Major Trauma Centre at King’s and the Network for South East London Kent and Medway, and in particular the trial of our 24-hour Helipad - the first for London and the South East.
“It’s been a fantastic team effort involving patients, staff and charities who have worked tirelessly to help realise and reduce transfer times from two hours to just 25 minutes, 24-hours a day,” he said.
Rob led the helipad project for eight years in collaboration with King’s ED Consultant Dr Malcolm Tunnicliff. The helipad opened in October 2016 and became operational around the clock in March 2019 following Lambeth Council approval.
