UCL Surgical Society is delighted to present our inaugural Plastics and Oral Maxillofacial Surgical Conference to be held on March 7th, 2020. This is an event approved by the British Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (BAPRAS) and the event has been granted 7 CME points. We are grateful to DePuy Synthes for sponsoring our Oral MaxFax plating workshop.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) is an exciting field which not all students have the chance to gain much exposure to in medical or dental school. Oral Maxillofacial Surgery is a specialty that encompasses elements in medicine, dentistry, reconstructive and plastic surgery. Additionally, OMFS advocates the importance of early prevention and intervention in head and neck cancers. With all these in mind, we have invited two inspiring speakers and planned a hands-on plating workshop accompanied by teaching in fracture management for you! The first talk touches upon the cutting-edge developments of facial transplantation and reconstruction. The second talk will discuss the joys and challenges of balancing a varied career in academic surgery, medical education and clinical practice in Oral Maxillofacial surgery.
Plastic surgery is arguably the most varied surgical specialty of them all, with work ranging from trauma, to burns to aesthetic surgery. By organising this conference, we have endeavoured to provide a well-rounded introduction to plastic surgery through three talks from leading surgeons, planned in the morning. The first one will be on the subject of trauma and burns, given by a highly-respected burns surgeon leading their field. The second talk will give advice on how to get the all-important ST3 training number which will be given by one of the nation’s top candidates. We will also be receiving a talk by a world-renowned surgeon, responsible for founding BFIRST. This charity provides essential training in reconstructive surgery to surgeons working in some of the most poorly-funded environments across the globe. The talks will be followed by workshops, taught by skilled surgeons showing you how to hone your surgical skills by removing skin lesions and carrying out tendon repairs.
