BAOMS and HEE launch new e-FACE sessions for OMFS Dental Core Trainees
01 July 2020 (Last updated: 2 Jul 2020 07:15)
The British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (BAOMS) and Health Education England e-Learning for Healthcare (HEE e-LfH) have developed eight new e-learning sessions from the Dental Core Training Curriculum (DCT) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) to support junior trainees in all aspects of their work.
The e-FACE project is structured into 16 modules that cover the majority of the Dental Core Training Curriculum. It is delivered as a blended learning solution to support existing local and regional training. Each of the sessions include self-assessment with feedback to reinforce learning. The sessions feature interactive learning, videos and case studies and all contribute towards Continued Professional Development. The formats vary from ‘bite size’ sessions to longer more in-depth reviews of topics. They are available to access wherever there is an internet connection and are fully compatible with mobile devices.
DCTs currently working in OMFs departments should already be aware of the free-to-use material on the eLfH website. This has a range of easy to access eLearning across all of medicine and dentistry.
e-FACE Clinical Project Lead, Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Jason Green, commented: “It is really exciting to see these new modules go live that will facilitate DCT induction. It has been especially pleasing to oversee this educational process, which was written and produced by trainees as they embark on their career in OMFS with the help of senior trainees and consultants. This collaborative approach has delivered content perfectly pitched at a level for new starters in OMFS and other healthcare professionals.”
BAOMS Chair Patrick Magennis added: “e-FACE is great resource, designed to be easily accessible so that it supports DCT trainees working in OMFS departments – and it is also suitable for all OMFS junior trainees.”
He explained that there is a new induction module aimed at new DCTs for 2020, and a new Facial Trauma package: “Existing DCTs should have a look at the induction module and let BAOMS know if we could make this better by adding any material (or taking anything out). Those aiming for DCT should complete the DCT induction and other key modules before they start their new jobs in September.
“By completing eLfH module trainees are already part way to completing the BAOMS Foundation programme in OMFS!”
The resources have been added to the e-FACE e-learning programme that is hosted on the e-LfH Hub and the new sessions include:
- Induction to Dental Core Training
- Introduction to Specialty Training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
- Management of Benign Salivary Gland Disease
- Management of Odontogenic and Oral Infections (Parts 1 & 2)
- Dentoalveolar Surgery for Orthodontic Treatment
