Geoff Chiu, an oral and maxillofacial consultant surgeon at East Lancashire Hospitals Trust and Royal Bolton Hospital, has just completed an Outlaw X Half Ironman Triathlon in Nottinghamshire to raise £2,000 to buy vital equipment for the trust.“I work in a great team who look after the faces and jaws of people in East Lancashire and Bolton. We treat patients who have cancer to the face and mouth, sustained facial injuries, and patients with facial deformity. We try to fix smiles, bring back smiles and make new smiles!
“I did the Half Ironman to raise money for new equipment to enhance patient care and recovery for patients who have had surgery to their face and mouth. So far, colleagues and friends have donated nearly half of the total I want to reach. Thank you, the money will go a long way to looking after the faces of patients in East Lancashire and Bolton,” he said.
A Half Ironman triathlon challenge includes a 2km swim, a 96km cycle and a 21km run, and Geoff finished his challenge in 6 hours 19 minutes.
